The Tea Factory, Birmingham, BBC Renovation Project

This completion shoot at The Tea Factory in Birmingham was made at shell and core handover stage for BAM. I’ve photographed this project from earlier stages as it developed, so this final set sits within a wider record of the building’s progress rather than as a one-off visit. The brief here was to document the building clearly and honestly in its current state, before the final fit-out works are completed. A lot of the interior lighting was not yet installed, so the evening images have a quieter, more restrained feel than a fully finished completion shoot, but that is part of the point. This set records the building as it actually stood at handover, with its structure, materials, circulation spaces and exterior character already in place.
